Trauma
Trauma work can be appropriate for a single moderate or severely traumatizing event or chronic, repeated traumas. Be it little t trauma or big T Trauma, I can help you recognize and work through its effects. I specialize in PTSD and Chronic PTSD and their effects including issues connecting with others, triggers, and disassociation. I work with trauma with both individuals and couples where one or more partners live with trauma symptoms.
The main approaches I use in the treatment of trauma symptoms are Brainspotting, Somatic Reprocessing work (TRM), Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT/EFCT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I tend to view clients through a psychodynamic lens which means I seek to assist the client in realizing how their childhoods are affecting them as adults where we both agree that it is helpful. I try to find balance in all of my approaches. Someone who tends to intellectualize may enjoy CBT and psychodynamic work, but may also greatly benefit from addressing feelings with EFT or noticing and addressing bodily sensations through somatic work.
Addressing traumatic events and childhood wounds can be daunting work, but also powerful and life-altering. Being able to tolerate difficult memories and feelings can lead to the freedom of breaking out of old patterns of thoughts and behaviors and reducing trauma symptoms like triggers or nightmares. I have found trauma work to often leads to self-compassion and self-empowerment with my clients. Reach out if you believe trauma work might be what you need to get un-stuck.
